This Chair Folds Up So You Can Easily Move It

So, let’s get straight to the point: moving is the task from hell that absolutely no one wants to do. Now that we’ve gotten that established, it appears that a very observant pair of designers has decided to capitalize off the world’s collective loathing of lugging personal belongings from one location to the next. Enter Möbel: a foldable chair that’s both easy to assemble and move.

When developing the lightweight seat, designers Max Hampton-Fischer and Tianyi Shi considered numerous factors, among them durability, comfort, aesthetics and resale potential. After research showed them that there was a high demand for portable furniture, they created a prototype, using a small scale paper model. The final product is made from several layers of recycled industrial felt and weighs a modest 19.8 pounds. A honeycomb pattern becomes visible when the chair in its expanded form, which is enabled by metal snap buttons.

Möbel seats one or two and owes its durability and stability to the layered fabric. Additionally, the design is ergonomic in nature, thanks to a surface that naturally gives when the user sits down. Whether you want to move it from one part of your house to another or change locations, the chair goes willingly. Simply undo the metal snaps, flatten it and transport without breaking a sweat. In its condensed form, the seat is less than 15 inches thick, while each section is condensed to less than six inches. Both the moving and assembly process can be completed by one person.

According to Möbel’s website, the chair’s target audience is college students with temporary living arrangements and young professionals who move frequently, but it’s safe to say they who wouldn’t be interested in a piece of easily movable furniture that doesn’t put too much of a strain on their wallets and backs.
