Before & After: A Bedroom Gets Finished With Fresh Paint and Flea Market Finds
When Gretchen finally got down to finishing her bedroom space, she added wall color, fresh art and affordable flea market finds to fill out what has now become a very calm and sophisticated space.

The before picture shows the room how it looked when we moved in, with all our furniture from our old house just sort of plopped down in the room. We still liked and were able to reuse most of the furniture (the headboard, bedside tables, and dresser), so we didn’t spend a lot of money in here, but the room still certainly has a completely different look now than it did when we started.
The changes with the biggest impact were probably painting the walls a dark teal (the color is Benjamin Moore’s Newburg Green) and putting up inexpensive board and batten on one wall. We also switched out the old ceiling fan for a new light. Most of the decorative items and wall hangings in the room are vintage finds from thrift stores and flea markets.
The room is filled with things that we love and that are meaningful to us, but a couple of my very favorite things are the green velvet cane chair in one corner and the hand-painted octopus hanging over the board and batten that was a gift from a friend, painted specifically for this room.
