It doesn’t take long after stepping into Kathy’s St. Paul home to come to the conclusion that she must be an artist. Her eclectic and bright mix of furniture and decor speaks of her personality and demeanor, with personal and one-of-a-kind treasures filling every room.

Over the past 11 years, Kathy’s home has undergone renovation and growth in its style and expression. Her home is full of what she loves, with art covering the walls (much of it her own) and an entire room converted into a jewelry studio; there is something to catch your attention in nearly every direction.

I felt right at home peeking at her art and decor inside and couldn’t pass up a moment to enjoy the gorgeous view of her backyard from the spacious deck.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Eclectic, feminine, modern, arty, #usewhatyagot

Inspiration: I’m inspired by fashion, things I haven’t seen before and especially repurposing, making things new. I’m informed and inspired by the beauty that exists in pieces, things already created. So when I’m decorating, designing, getting dressed in the morning, making jewelry, cutting hair or painting a picture I’m co-creating with beauty! I feel like I’m on holy ground!

Favorite Element: It’s a home that provides me with peace and gives me the ability to express myself, which is a luxury and a blessing to me. A space that I can rest in and share with my cats. I get filled up there, in the quiet I find my energy.

Biggest Challenge: Focus, Keeping it clean with 2 cats!

What Friends Say: “Kathy’s house is a treasure— warm, welcoming, safe, cozy, bright. Decorated with pictures, paintings, treasures full of meaning and that each come with a story you don’t want to miss. Sitting on the deck out back on a table built by Kathy brings a sense of peace and comfort. A place where once you sit down, you realize you can leave your busy life behind and simply breathe again. It is impossible to choose a favorite space within Kathy’s house, as each room is full of character, spirit and joy. The art studio, usually bouncing with favorite tunes, is colorful and inviting — a place where creativity is effortless. The studio is also a place of worship. You can feel God’s protection and love radiating throughout the studio, the entire home. I must say that I love her kitchen, because who doesn’t love eating at a high-top table? Basically Kathy’s place is my dream-place. The beauty of the space draws me in, but the energy of the space is what makes me want to return again and again.” — Jess Gore

Biggest Embarrassment: That would be my laundry room in my basement. I don’t like to do laundry and when I do it I don’t like to fold it and it’s a big fat mess!

Proudest DIY: My latest ring and my back deck table.

Biggest Indulgence: My couch, my retaining wall.

Best Advice: When decorating, designing, creating — pick pieces you Love. Don’t think about matching or if things go together, this way you end up with a home full of things you love. My hope is that people feel the Love in my home.

Dream Sources: Estate sales on the last day, Opitz’s Paris Flea market and IKEA.

Thanks, Kathy!
