This is as close to living in the palace as it gets—without being royal, that is: A new condo development is opening literally across the street from Buckingham Palace, and it’s just as posh as you might expect.

Number One Palace Street, formerly Buckingham Gate, is a Grade II Listed building that was built in 1861 as one of London’s first Landmark hotels. Known as “The Palace Hotel,” it hosted the overflow of distinguished guests from Buckingham Palace. The land around the site was once a mulberry tree garden and aviary for exotic birds during the reign of King James I.

Fast forward 150 years, and the place is getting a makeover. According to the design firm, the property spans five architectural styles: 1860s Grade II Italianate Renaissance, 1880s French Renaissance, 1880s French Beaux Arts, 1890s Queen Anne, and 2018 Contemporary.

The residence is the only address in London with views of the 42 acres of royal gardens, and unlike most developments, each of its 72 apartments (which range from two bedrooms to five, and 2,620 square feet to 5,378 square feet) are unique and are sold furnished, and “include original and restored period features, such as cornicing, skirting, and original fireplaces,” as well as “impressive ceiling heights (up to 4.7 meters), creating a magnificent sense of space.”

The building has such “palatial amenities” as a 6,500-square-foot “haven of well-being” for residents to use, which features a large gym, personal training suites, treatment rooms, and a 20-meter swimming pool. There is also a grand meeting room that can be used as a dining room, as well as a media room, library, and gardens.

18 of the 72 apartments remain, with prices from £2.5 million (about $3,229,300) up to £30 million (about $38,757,000). The building won’t be completed until December 2019.
