All-white walls can be a fresh, peaceful canvas for a bedroom. Or they can be a big bore. If you can’t paint your walls because you rent and you don’t have the money to splurge on colorful, wall-sized art, then you can do what Sonia did in her cozy San Francisco rental bedroom: Find a way to use every color anyway.

Sonia writes:

This room is the biggest of my apartment, and my favorite! I love the light and the space. I love to be surrounded by colors (I have a shop called Sunday in color) and of course this room is super colorful. My inspiration comes from my travels, where I like to discover new crafts (Native american weavings, Mexican bags, Moroccan baskets…)

One of my favorite item is the ojo de dios wall decor that I brought back from Sayulita (Mexico). It’s made of super bright neon wool. I also love my sheep! He’s cute and soft from the brand Hansa. They make plushes that look like real animals. Almost all the baskets come from my shop, they are super useful as small storage and to add a touch of color in the room.

The thing about this room is that though it has nearly every color of the rainbow in it, the space doesn’t seem overwhelming in the slightest. Sonia found the perfect balance of using her white walls to create a serene space for sleeping and incorporating color in small doses. A colorful, patterned bedspread anchors the room, while little explosions of color are sprinkled around the space.

Asymmetrical art and decor arrangements on the wall means interest is created without spending a lot of money on art to take up wall space. And lastly, because much of the color comes from accessories made of natural materials, earthy textures make the room feel finished without feeling too full.
