Before & After: Megan & Sam’s Bathroom Gut Job

When Megan and Sam bought their New Orleans Victorian two years ago, they decided to tackle a complete bathroom renovation on their own. Thankfully, Sam has a lot of construction and renovation work under his belt, so the job was familiar terrain.

Here’s what Megan had to say about the project:
After ripping out all the ugly brown and beige tile on the floor and walls (and one trip to the hospital for stitches–always wear work gloves!), Sam patched and refinished the original wood floors under the tile, hung new sheet rock, baseboards, and crown molding, installed a new toilet (the Sterling Windham, $130), sink basin (a re-salvaged piece made by The Bank, $650), and painted.
I picked a white penny tile from Floor & Decor with dark gray grout for the shower ($350 total) and hired professionals to do the tile work ($750) and re-enamel the tub to make it look brand new ($250). For the finishing touches, Sam installed a new shower head (Home Depot, $26) and tub faucet and knobs (Lowe’s, $110), then we added bathroom hardware and a mirror from Ikea (about $60 total) and a light sconce from the Home Depot ($15).
