Even if the prospect of owning an exceptionally extravagant abode is far from your reality, it’s still fun to peek inside the homes of the extremely rich, particularly if it’s the most expensive property in Malibu’s history.
Unoccupied since the Malibu Canyon fire destroyed it in 2007, the manse has undergone a two-year revitalization at the hands of architect and developer Scott Gillen, who paid $9.7 million for the 3.5-acre property in 2015. Now with an asking price of a not-so-modest $80 million, the sprawling residence awaits new owners who wish to live a life filled with sunny weather, seaside views and serenity inside of a former castle.
Yes – as if it couldn’t get more glamorous, the priciest mansion to ever hit the market in Malibu used to be a real-life castle, as in the stuff of fairytales. Previously known as Malibu Castle Kashan, the posh hilltop residence was once owned by philanthropist Lilly Lawrence. She purchased it from a doctor for $3 million in 1998 and turned it into a hotspot for the who’s who of the city as well as the home of priceless antiques and an extensive collection of memorabilia that included a pair of Elvis Presley’s army fatigues.
In our humble, non-royal opinions, this luxurious residence still fits the castle bill, as is indicated by its moniker “New Castle.”
For starters, the 10,500 square-foot space includes five bedrooms and six baths. The 4,000-square foot, 4-bathroom guest house features a kitchen and a spa. And with marvelous features like a 120-foot-long great room, an infinity pool and a wine tasting room, we really wish we could be added to the royal guest list. Accentuating the true fortress feel is the home’s 400-foot-long gated driveway because the pathway to a literal castle must be as dramatic as the home itself.
