Bachelors may have a reputation for maintaining less-than-desirable living quarters, but as the founder and CMO of online interior design firm Laurel & Wolf, Brandon Kleinman refused to fall victim to such stereotypes. With the help of a Laurel & Wolf designer, Brandon was able to salvage some of the fun pieces he’s collected over the years and properly showcase them in a put-together space styled with his personality in mind.

Designer Jamie and Brandon collaborated on three main spaces in Brandon’s one-bedroom apartment in West Hollywood: the living room, dining room, and reading nook. Brandon enjoys having guests and wanted these prominent spaces to be warm and inviting, despite his love for hard-edge, industrial materials. The result is a stylish space with a masculine vibe that utilizes the built-in charm of the Spanish-style architecture. Cool tones like blues and greys are used, along with cozy furniture and just-enough throw pillows to be functional and stylish.

Brandon’s bedroom is still under renovation and we can’t wait to see how they transform an intimate space with this same aesthetic. Stay tuned for an update on the finished product!

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Inspiration: I told my Laurel & Wolf designer, Jamie, that I loved the combination of wood and metal (I’m kind of a fan of industrial eclectic design), but I wanted something that was still warm enough to make my friends feel comfortable and at-home. She immediately understood the look I was going for and really helped me narrow down all of my ideas to a cohesive design.

Favorite Element: The poster I “permanently borrowed” from the “El Classico” soccer match in Medellin, Colombia… If you google “El Classico”, you’ll find it’s one of South America’s most intense and most violent sport rivalries. Seriously. My friend and I went and sat in the local fan section of the stadium in Estadio Atanasio Girardot last August. The game was crazy – people were shooting flares in the stands, going wild, and indulging in all types of shenanigans. On the way out I saw a perfect Nike poster that advertised the match around town (seen on gallery wall) and snuck over to the wall and pulled it down off the stadium while 15 La Policia watched me. Getting it home was tricky, but now it hangs proudly in my living room.

Biggest Challenge: While well-kept, the building is pretty old. Many of the architectural details and edges show their age with chipping and uneven walls and floors. I also have a dog who loves to move furniture, open doors, and make pillow forts with my pillows. So my designer from Laurel & Wolf had to find a way to design the space that embraced its architectural character and to not use too many pieces that Clyde could rearrange.

What Friends Say: Everyone is amazed by the transformation. Before, it was honestly a wreck and kind of a joke among my friends. Inevitably everyone asks who designed it and cannot believe how affordably my Laurel & Wolf designer was able to change the space.

Biggest Embarrassment: My old place?

Proudest DIY: I had a giant plastic lobster that had sentimental value that I wanted to incorporate. My designer had the idea to spray paint it gold and now it’s one of my favorite parts of my living room.

Biggest Indulgence: Books, BBQ, and travel.

Best Advice: I learned at a very early age that the easiest thing in the world is to tell the truth, because then you don’t have to remember what you said.
